Who We Are - National Founders

#1 - Kenyan Masala
Geeta Nadia Kapur


Geeta Kapur was born in Nakuru, Kenya, East Africa. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and subsequently returned to the UNC School of Law. She became a practicing attorney and is licensed in the states of New York and North Carolina . After law school, she worked as an Assistant Public Defender for two years in Orange County, NC. She currently has her own practice and represents poor adults and children who are charged with criminal offenses and those who have suffered civil rights violations and racial discrimination. As a founder, she designed the sorority seal and served as the first Dean of Initiation designing several rituals. She led the incorporation process for the Sorority, led expansion projects to NC State and UNC Greensboro, and drafted the National Constitution. She occasionally attends Xi Beta chapter events. She volunteers as a tutor at an African charter school, is a pen pal to a woman on NC's death row, and is a member of the ACLU Racial Profiling Task Force and the NAACP Legal Redress Committee.

Natalie Nacole Barker


Natalie Barker was born in Statesville , North Carolina. Natalie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in International Studies.

Peggy Virginia Long


Ginny Long was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Child Development and Family Studies. After graduation, Ginny moved to Atlanta and is in her eighth year of teaching, focusing on working with underprivileged students in low income schools. While teaching, Ginny received her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Kennesaw State University, as well as Educational Specialist degree and Leadership add-on certificate from Georgia State University.

Melissa Jo Murchison-Blake


Melissa Murchison-Blake was born in Manhasset, New York. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in International Studies and became an educator. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in International and Intercultural Education at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. The focus of her studies is on systematic educational reform and its implications on global equity. She also works with a non-profit educational consulting firm that trains public school teachers. Melissa conceptualized the idea of a multicultural sorority and was the first to lead the sorority as the first President. She led the presentation of the sorority to Greek Affairs at UNC. She was a founding member of the first graduate chapter Xi Alpha in New York City and currently participates occasionally with Xi Zeta in South Florida. She volunteers with Anytown, a youth leadership program and participates in the AIDS Walk. Melissa has a beautiful son - Jyson.

Brenda Imade Eribo


Brenda Eribo was born in Saint Petersburg (formerly known as Leningrad ), Russia. Brenda graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Psychology and Russian Language and Literature. She subsequently entered the field of Human Resources and is the Human Resources Manager at the National School Boards Association (NSBA) in Washington D.C. NSBA is responsible for training School Board members all over the country. During the founding process of the sorority, she was instrumental in drafting the charter constitution and served as the first Vice President. She is an active member of the Xi Gamma Chapter and volunteers as an interpreter for Russian orphans and their American hosts.

#6 - Miss Linx
Katherine Ellen Stanley


Katherine Stanley was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Anthropology. She works in the banking industry and is currently a Regional Manager for Wachovia in Asheville, North Carolina. Katherine has consistently been involved in the organization on the national level. She was the first Executive Director of the sorority and currently serves as the organization's National Director of Expansion. She is a founder and active member of the Xi Beta Chapter and was recognized as the Graduate, Alumnae and Professional Sister of the Year in 2005. She actively works to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research and has been active in community service with other organizations such as the Komen Race for the Cure Foundation and the Junior League. Katherine has a daughter, Olivia, who is the joy of her life and keeps her full.

Janelle Kalia Poe


Janelle Poe was born in Bronx, New York and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in International Studies. After college she obtained an associate's degree from the premiere Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She worked for a short time in the retail fashion industry. She currently works for New York City's oldest non-profit organization named Community Service Society where she is a project coordinator responsible for writing curriculums and for training volunteers who in turn, teach students to be prejudice fighters in their communities. As a founder, she was active in the creation of the sorority, its colors, and its constitution. As the first Social Chair she led the effort for university recognition of the sorority. She was a founding member of the first graduate chapter Xi Alpha in New York City where she is an active member. She volunteers with high school students teaching them fashion design, designed a reading curriculum for first and second grade students who had difficulty reading, and is a diversity trainer and artist who performed at NCCJ's Hate in the Hallways Conference in 2006.
